Solo Dog Walks in Finchley – Your Questions Answered

If you’re looking for solo dog walks in Finchley, you probably have a few questions.

That’s completely normal.

Choosing the right person to walk your dog isn’t just about availability.
It’s about trust, safety, and making sure your dog is genuinely comfortable.

I offer calm, one-to-one dog walks in Finchley, often for dogs who don’t suit group walks.

Below are the questions I get asked most often.

Service: one-on-one dog walks

What is a solo dog walk?

A solo dog walk means your dog is walked on their own.

There are no group walks, no mixing with unfamiliar dogs, and no pressure to keep up with others.

I collect your dog from home and walk them locally, on foot.

Each walk is tailored to your dog. Some need time to sniff and settle. Others benefit from gentle structure and guidance.

Why choose solo walks instead of group walks?

Group walks can work well for some dogs.

But they’re not right for all dogs.

In a group setting, dogs often have to:

  • match the pace of others
  • cope with multiple personalities
  • deal with higher levels of stimulation

For nervous, reactive or sensitive dogs, this can be overwhelming.

With solo walks, I can:

  • adjust the pace
  • give space when needed
  • focus fully on your dog

This usually leads to a calmer, more settled dog over time.

Do you walk nervous or reactive dogs?

Yes.

Many of the dogs I walk are nervous, reactive, or still settling into a new home.

The following are just some of the things I often see in rescue dogs

  • barking at other dogs
  • pulling on the lead
  • freezing or refusing to move
  • being unsure around people

Does any of this sound familiar? Feel free to get in touch, and we can talk it through

I don’t rush these dogs or force situations.

Instead, I:

  • create space from triggers
  • keep things predictable
  • build confidence gradually

Do you use a van?

No.

All walks are done on foot from your home.

This keeps things:

  • calmer
  • more predictable
  • less stressful for your dog

It also means your dog isn’t being transported with other dogs or placed into an unfamiliar environment.

What areas do you cover?

I offer solo dog walks in:

  • Finchley
  • North Finchley
  • Finchley Central (N3)
  • East Finchley (N2)
  • Muswell Hill (N10)

If you’re unsure, feel free to ask.

What happens on a typical walk?

Every walk is slightly different.

But most follow a similar rhythm.

We leave the house calmly and give your dog time to settle.

I choose quieter routes where possible and adjust depending on your dog’s needs that day.

During the walk, I focus on:

  • allowing time to sniff and explore
  • keeping distance from anything that might cause stress
  • encouraging calm behaviour

Some dogs need more movement.
Others benefit from slower, decompression-style walks.

The aim is not to “wear your dog out”.
It’s to help them feel more settled.

How long are the walks?

Walk length depends on your dog.

Some dogs do best with shorter, slower walks.
Others need a bit more time.

We’ll agree on what works best during our initial chat, but on average, they are 45-60 minutes.

What equipment do you use?

I use safe, well-fitted equipment suited to your dog.

This usually includes:

  • a secure lead
  • a properly fitted harness or collar

I use calm, reward-based handling at all times.

I don’t use:

  • choke chains
  • prong collars
  • harsh handling methods

If your dog needs specific equipment, we’ll go through this together.

Can you help with lead pulling or behaviour on walks?

Yes, within the context of the walk.

Many dogs improve simply from:

  • calmer handling
  • consistent routines
  • less overwhelming environments

I can support:

  • loose lead walking
  • calmer responses to triggers
  • general confidence outdoors

For more complex behaviour, I work within your dog’s limits and won’t push them too far too quickly.

What happens before the first walk?

I arrange a meet and greet first.

This gives me a chance to:

  • meet you and your dog
  • understand their routine
  • learn about any behaviour or triggers
  • Answer any questions you have

There’s no pressure.

It’s simply to make sure this is the right fit.

Will my dog always be walked alone?

Yes, and only be me – Del

I only offer one-to-one walks.

This allows me to give your dog my full attention and keep things consistent.

Can you help while I’m away?

Yes.

If your dog prefers to stay at home rather than go to a kennel, I also offer house sitting.

This allows your dog to stay in their own environment with their normal routine.

Is this suitable for older dogs?

Yes.

Older dogs often benefit the most from solo walks.

They can:

  • move at their own pace
  • avoid complicated or stressful situations
  • have a routine that suits their needs

What if my dog is unsure with new people?

That’s completely fine.

I take things slowly and build trust over time.

Some dogs are comfortable straight away.
Others need a few short, calm introductions.

There’s no rush.

Most of the dogs I walk come to me because group walks haven’t worked for them.
