London Dog Friendly Cafes, Restaurants and Bars

How does the law view dogs in eating places?

Whilst Foof regulations quite rightly ban dogs from the area where food is being prepared, there is no law that says they cannot be in places where food is served as long as standard hygiene practices are followed.

The Kennel; club has a campaign called ‘Open for Dogs’, which they started in 2008. The idea behind the campaign n is to try and encourage more places to become dog friendly

In the words of the Kennel Club:

“Eating out is a social experience, and the very presence of dogs encourages people to socialise and relax, so businesses would really benefit from opening their doors to dogs.  There are also millions of dog owners in the UK who want to pop out for a bite to eat but don’t wish to leave their dogs behind, so it’s a win, win situation.”

In North London, we are quite lucky to have various venues that are dog friendly, from just a simple coffee to a drink and meal; however, please remember to make sure that your dog is kept under control at all times and respect the other customers.
