Solo Dog Walks in Finchley and Muswell Hill area

If your dog doesn’t suit group walks, you’re not alone.

Some dogs find groups overwhelming.
Some need space to feel safe.
Some just do better when things are calm and predictable.

I offer one-to-one dog walks in Finchley for dogs who need that quieter approach.

That includes dogs who are:

  • nervous or anxious outdoors
  • reactive to other dogs or people
  • rescue dogs still settling in
  • older dogs who need a slower pace

There are no vans, no packs, and no rushing between dogs.

I walk from your door and keep things simple, calm and focused on your dog.

What is a solo dog walk?

A solo walk means your dog is walked on their own.

No group.
No mixing with unfamiliar dogs.
No pressure to keep up.

I collect your dog from home and walk them locally, on foot, at a pace that suits them.

For some dogs, that means a steady stroll with plenty of sniffing.
For others, it might include gentle training or confidence-building.

Every walk is different because every dog is different.

And I understand that some dogs also need time to settle at home before walks become easier, so we i take this into account

Nervous Dog Settling

Who are solo one-to-one dog walks for

Solo walks are often the right choice if your dog:

  • is nervous or anxious outdoors
  • is a rescue or still settling in
  • reacts to other dogs, people, or traffic
  • is older and needs a slower pace
  • pulls or struggles on the lead
  • gets overwhelmed in group settings
  • needs help building calm behaviour

If any of that sounds familiar, your dog isn’t “difficult”.

They just need the right kind of walk.

Why I don’t offer group walks

Group walks work well for some dogs.

But they don’t suit every dog.

In a group, dogs often have to:

  • match the pace of others
  • cope with multiple personalities
  • deal with more stimulation

For nervous or sensitive dogs, this can lead to stress rather than enjoyment.

With solo walks, I can:

  • slow things down
  • give space when needed
  • focus fully on your dog

If you’re unsure what’s best, I’ve written more about this in my guide to choosing the right type of walk

Reward-based handling during a one-to-one dog walk in Muswell Hill

How I structure each walk

I keep things simple and calm.

A typical walk includes:

  • time to sniff and explore
  • quiet routes where possible
  • space from busy dogs and crowds
  • gentle guidance if needed

I don’t rush from one booking to the next.
I don’t try to “tire dogs out”.

The aim is a calmer, more settled dog.
Not an over-stimulated one.

I’ve worked with many nervous and rescue dogs over the years and have lots of experience. If any of the above sounds like your dog, then why not get in touch

Safety, equipment and handling

Your dog’s safety comes first.

I use:

  • secure leads and appropriate harnesses – I always check the equipment before I walk them
  • calm, reward-based handling
  • awareness of surroundings at all times

I don’t use:

  • choke chains
  • prong collars
  • slip leads
  • any aversive methods
  • And try to avoid retractable leads, especially the cord type- read about retractable leads in my guide

If your dog needs specific equipment, I’ll talk this through with you.
I’ve outlined my rescue dog equipment kit here

First walk and getting started

Before any walks begin, I arrange a simple meet and greet.

This gives me a chance to:

  • understand your dog’s routine
  • learn about behaviour and triggers
  • see how your dog responds to me

There’s no pressure.

It’s about making sure this is the right fit for you and your dog.

Frequently asked questions

Do you walk reactive dogs?

Yes. Many of the dogs I walk need space and careful handling. I work at their pace and avoid overwhelming situations.

Do you use a van?

No. All walks are done on foot from your home. This keeps things calmer and more consistent for your dog

How long are the walks?

Walk length depends on your dog’s needs. We’ll agree on this during the initial chat.

What if my dog is nervous around new people?

That’s completely fine. I take things slowly and build trust over time

What if the weather is hot

If the weather is hot or considered unsuitable for any reason, then I will follow my extreme weather policy and will do enrichment pop-in visits instead
