When is the best time to book holiday care for your Pet?

If a pet shares your life at home, booking and jetting off on holiday is not easy. It would help if you also made plans for your pet’s arrangements too. With the advent of the internet, the many options available have increased, but at the end of the day, you need to find a holiday provision that will keep your pet safe, comfortable, stress-free, and, of course, secure during your absence. Holidays can become complicated when you have a dog or a cat – so the sooner you make your plans, the better.

The busy holiday periods, beginning around Easter time and onto the summer holiday dates, always see a massive increase in demand for pet sitters, dog walking, cat feeding,  and drop-in visits to care for your dogs, cats and other small animals. So when do you decide is the best time to make your booking to ensure you have responsible cover? It’s sooner than you think!

Crucial Booking Time for holiday care for your pets

Ideally, the best time to make a booking for your pet sitting or drop-in visits to your home to feed your cat or other animals is a minimum of 8-10 weeks before your travel date. This allows me time to meet your pet to ensure we will be a good fit for each other before you leave for your vacation. Finchley Dog Walker’s holiday periods are often hectic, and I get booked up even months in advance by returning clients, so my advice would be to reserve your dates well in advance.

A good alternative to boarding your pet – have them looked after at home.

If your pet lives at home with you in a family environment, uprooting them and taking them to board in a small, isolated, restricted space typical to many kennels may be stressful for your pet and upsetting for you. For this reason, many animal owners are now looking for home-based pet care – either in the Pet Sitter’s home or in your own home, with your dog or cat remaining in their relaxed, familiar surroundings, with human interaction. There are some state-of-the-art, modern boarding facilities for dogs and cats staying away from home, but nothing beats home comforts and the familiarity of their surroundings.

Your home will be minded too – for no extra charge!

If you have more than one pet at home, it probably makes sense for the pet sitter to stay in your house and care for them while you are on holiday. This great alternative to a kennel or cattery boarding is usually cheaper, and your pet is much happier in its home. Finchley Dog Walker and Pet Sitting services will watch your dog or cat, take your dog for walks, keep up on their training routine if required, and be there for those loving cuddles and pats in your absence. Your home is taken care of too, and your pet sitter will come and go from your house, opening and closing curtains and putting on lights at night.

Book a Dog Walker

Perhaps you want to leave your dog at home while you’re away if he’s content to be alone for most of the day. We can call your home twice a day to ensure he’s happy, give him his daily exercise and feed him as required. This option probably works best if you only go away for a day or two. Remember, though, that emergencies and accidents can happen, be it a minor medical problem, an electrical failure, a flood or a fire, and you certainly wouldn’t want to leave your dog or cat with no one checking on them.

Finding the right pet sitter or home boarder for your animals will allow you to relax and make the most of your holiday. This can take time to discuss things over the telephone, meet your pet sitter in person, and check their insurance details and references. Please don’t leave it too late to get in touch with Finchley Dog Walker and Pet Sitting Services.
